Pizza 101

Welcome to Pizza 101!  This course will last through next week. You will learn a basic dough recipe that can take you from thin crust pizza though strombolis and calzones.  You will be able to impress your friends and family with the upside down pizza and deep dish pizza.  Your kids and their friends will be wowed by your pizza pockets and mini deep dish pizzas. By the end of this course you will be a pizza making pro!!

Pizza is one of my favorite things to make at home.  I always make pizza for people I have never cooked for before.  It's my secret weapon.  My favorite thing about making pizza for people is their reaction to me making pizza from scratch.  I think it is because most people think of pizza as a take out meal.   It is so easy to just pick up the phone and call in an order and wait for the delivery man to bring you mediocre pizza.  Don't get me wrong there are some great pizza places out there, but with the tricks you learn in this course, you will be making pizza that rivals the best pizza places.

I have a long history with pizza.  My family is from Chicago, we are very serious about our pizza.  My parents and I moved to the east coast from Chicago when I was almost 3.  The east coast pizza was OK, but nothing compared to the pizza from home.  My dad always complained that the crust wasn't crispy enough.  So my Mom decided to take matters into her own hands and made pizza at home.  Pizza for us was a Saturday night thing, every Saturday night.  We even started eating upside down pizza on Christmas Eve.  As my Mom started to recreate pizzas from Chicago, it became a very exciting meal in our house.  I learned everything I know about making pizza from my Mom.  I was always excited to help decorate the pizzas and to watch my Mom juggle the pizzas in and out of the oven.  My favorite part was the leftovers and that is my favorite part today.  I love cold pizza.  I am not saying that I never order a pizza.  There are decent local, family run pizza places near my house.  But when I am looking for quality, I make my own.

I had a blast making all the recipes for Pizza 101.  My Hubby, Peanut Butter and I sure had a blast getting to eat everything I made.  Enjoy!
