Orange beach blanket

I guess technically it is an orange, yellow, red and blue beach blanket but let's just focus on the orange :) I made this years ago right after I graduated college.  It is just bandanas sewn together.  The back and front are the same.  I did not quilt this blanket but I wish I would have.  There are little ties holding the batting in place.  Around the edges the batting is pulling away.  I would love to redo this but I think we will just keep using it until I get some time to do that :)

I tried really hard to squeeze a whole bunch of things into this last week of summer.  I will revisit my Summer Bucket List later but here is what we were up to this week:

SBL #32: fly a kite is done!
I got this for $1 at Target at the beginning of the summer.
Sadly there was only a tiny breeze today so PB ran with the kite to get it to fly. He had fun and got super tired.  It was awesome!

This week PB and I also went to the pool, made a trip to the zoo, did free bowling, went to a baseball game, went to the park, had friends over, had a pool playdate, went to the amusement park with a friend and I made my cards for card swap.  It was a crazy week.  Hubby was traveling all this week.  Hubby and I also celebrated our 15 year dating anniversary this week while he was away.  Next week is our last week before PreSchool starts.  Hubby is going to take a few days off and we are going to have some family fun! So see you next Friday!! Americans, enjoy your long weekend :)

Exciting News!

I am very excited to announce that we are expecting a baby in February!! I am 14 weeks and have been very, very sick this summer.  That is why I have been such a blog slacker.  Do you forgive me? I got the idea for this pic on pinterest :)

PB is THRILLED to be becoming a big brother.  He has been asking for a sibling for a while now and he just can't wait.  He went to an ultrasound and saw the baby flipping all over.  He is just so proud to tell people that he is going to be a big brother.

It has been so hard to keep this secret.  Every week when I would say we haven't crossed anything off our summer bucket list I just wanted to say, "the only thing I am doing with a bucket lately is puking in it." We finally got to tell all our extended family this week so the news it out!!

Here are some random things I have been wanting to share with you all for weeks:

1. How can one tiny little baby make a person so sick! I am on my second round of medication for nausea.  It has been bad.  This happened with PB too.
2. We are not finding out the gender :)
3.  We haven't even begun discussing names, this is the worst part for us.
4. I can't wait to start sewing baby things!! All those baby projects I made for others, I get to make for myself!!
5.  Pretzels make me puke but tomatoes, spicy salsa, and hot wings make me feel better.
6.  Some days all I want to eat is tacos.  This happened with PB too.
7.  I don't even want to think about grilled chicken right now.  Just typing it almost made me toss my cookies.
8.  I made Hubby a coconut cake for his birthday and the baby decided I couldn't eat any icing that week.  :-/
9.  I keep spontaneously falling asleep in the afternoons.  There is no controlling it.
10.  I am just so excited to be expanding our family.  I really don't care if this is a boy or a girl, I am just excited that we will be a family of four.

Thanks so much for being patient with me this summer.  I have started to look at fabrics and possibilities for things I am making for the baby. There is going to be a lot of orange for sure!!  I can't wait!!

Orange Eva Solo Carafe

Every week it seems I am saying how wonderful my Hubby is, but it's true.  He got me an other orange little gift.  I have been drinking a ton of water this summer and was complaining about having to get up to refill the cup.  I know, super lazy, I am mildly ashamed.  He saw this and thought it would make my day brighter.  He was right!! It is fantastic.  The bonus is the neoprene outside cover makes sure the carafe doesn't sweat all over the place.  It is good for cold and hot liquids.

Hubby got me this gift and then said he was going to be doing a lot of traveling in the next month.  Blerg. It did soften the blow a little :)

Summer Bucket List time!
I did #14: try a new zucchini recipe.

Kenda from Kenda's Crafts recommended this Chocolate Zucchini Bread recipe and it is fantastic!! Like super fantastic!!! Thanks Kenda!!!! I did use dark chocolate everywhere it said chocolate in the recipe :)

Summer is almost over!! I better get moving on this list!!
Monday I am going to share my summer photoshoot!!!! Happy Weekend!

Downstairs Makeover

This past weekend I decided our house needed a change.  I told my Hubby I wanted to take our Lounge and turn it into a playroom and get all the toys out of our living room.  I think I stepped on one too many matchbox cars and I snapped. Hubby was a great sport.  He was ready to help me get the house cleaned up and I sprung changing the rooms around on him at the last minute. So a huge thank you to my Hubby for helping me move everything around!

I am about to get real.  I did not put anything away before taking the before pics.
(keep reading for a bonus mess at the end of the post!)

The Living Room before:
This is actually a good day for our living room. A bad day would have a pile of blocks dumped in the empty spaces. I don't know if you can see but the shelves on the back wall have no toys in them. They are all on the floor and in front of the fireplace.

You can see that I have a messy coffee table.  Confession: 90% of that is my mess.

The Living Room after:
No more toys!!! We moved a couch that was in our lounge into this room.  We are actually planning on moving it down to our basement but we have a bunch of things we have to get rid of first before we can bring it down there.

The only thing left is PB's reading chair and books.  See those blue tape lines on the floor?  We are looking at getting a new couch and I taped out the footprint to see how it would work in the room.

Hey,now I can see the fireplace!! Hubby and I love to relax together at night and watch TV.  Now we can do that and not look at a ton of toys. I will say the past 2 nights relaxing in that room have been pretty nice.

The Lounge before:
The Lounge was supposed to be the "clean adult room."  If someone unexpectedly dropped by I could direct them right to this room and they wouldn't see the rest of the mess in the house.  Before PB came along Hubby and I used to sit in here and talk and have drinks and it was such a fun room for us. Now Hubby goes in there for a few hours on the weekend and reads while PB naps.
The Lounge also became a dumping ground. PB's toys also started creeping into the room.  So the idea that it was my "clean room" went right out the window.

 The Lounge after:
We left the long couch and ottomans.  The ottomans now hold some toys that didn't have a place in our living room.

He has plenty of storage and lots of space in the middle to play.  So far it is working out great!

Cost of this makeover: FREE!!!
That's right, free! We just moved furniture around and got rid of a few things. It took about 2 hours total.  Hubby did clean the Lounge really good and vacuum behind and under all the furniture. He's the best!

This was a pretty long post so since you made it this far, I have a bonus mess for you.
 My Kitchen counter:

This sadly is what it has looked like for most of the summer.  Sometimes there were less dishes piled on it and sometimes it was worse.

After:
So while we were tackling the rest of the downstairs, I made this a priority too.  Hopefully I can keep it up.  I will admit that having fun with what is left of summer is higher on my priority list.

Thanks so much for reading! Maybe this will inspire you to see what you can change up in your house.  You can make a big change in 2 hours!!

Orange step stool

Yay for Friday!!
This is the BEKVAM Step Stool from IKEA.  It comes unfinished so of course I painted it orange.  PB uses it to wash hands and help in the kitchen.

Hubby and I got away for 2 days last week.  I won a 2 night trip to a Spa Resort that is about 2 hours away.  While we were there they had a strict phones stay in the room policy.  So I didn't take any pics because I didn't bring my camera with us.  But I crossed two things off the Summer Bucket List while we were there.  I did #17 Go Fishing.  It was put on the list so that we would take PB fishing.  But we never got a fishing license and the resort was on a private lake and had an open fishing time.  Since I was up earlier than Hubby, I went fishing. I didn't catch anything in the hour I sat there. But I did get a few nibbles.  It was peaceful for about 15 minutes and then I got bored.  It was a nice reminder that maybe PB isn't ready for something that quiet yet. Maybe next year.
Hubby and I went geocaching so that crosses off #42 Go For  a Hike.  If you don't know what geocaching is, you get  GPS with coordinates on it.  You select the next coordinate and then follow the arrow to get there.  Once you are in the general location, you are looking for a prize.  I was seriously awesome at that part.  It was really fun to do something with just Hubby where we work together.  Usually we call activities where we have to work together "a marriage test." When we work together at home we usually fight, like when we put IKEA furniture together.  But this was a nice reminder that we both can take turns taking the lead and the other one can follow.  Yes, the lady who loves to be the boss did just say that :)

We also did #40 Do a Summer Photo Shoot.  But I'll share those pics soon :)

Happy Weekend!!

Baby Shower Gift

I know I haven't been posting too much this summer and I apologize.  I just really haven't been sewing or making any new recipes.  Summer has just been too fun.  All that fun means PB's nap time has many times been my nap time.  I did sew a baby gift for one of Hubby's cousins.  She directed me towards navy and pairing other colors with it.  When she said navy I had the floral print below in mind.  I saw it the week before and thought it was really sweet.  She is having a baby girl and it was refreshing to not sew everything pink.
Starting from the left is a pink taggie blanket.  It is fleece on one side and knit on the other. Then going across the top is a crinkle taggie toy, hat with a flower pin, and a nursing cover in floral.  Then there are 3 burp cloths on the bottom.  They are all a little different.

I really do love making this as a gift for a new mom.  I know you can buy all these things but they are things that everyone uses.  It is fun to have a more personal burp cloth to use for your baby.

I just found out about a few more babies on the way so I will be making some more things this fall and winter.  I can't wait!!!

Orange Camera Hair Pin

Another week where I was a blog slacker.  Sorry!
I know I have mentioned a million times that I have the best Hubby in the world.  Last week was his birthday and he ordered me a present.  He is just too thoughtful.  He saw this and thought I needed it.  I love wearing it to tie my bangs back.

I really have been a blog slacker and I apologize.  I even have pics all ready to go and I just need to get them up here.  Summer has just been too fun.
This is my first real haul from the garden.  We have been getting cherry tomatoes 2 at a time so PB and I just eat them off the plant.  I ate the 2 large tomatoes yesterday, they were amazing.  I could eat a million more.  My large tomato plants aren't looking as good as last year so I don't think I am going to get many tomatoes.  So sad, I really could eat them for every meal.

PB and I went to an amusement park that is just for younger kids this week with our friends.  So I was off having fun all week and have been neglecting my blog.

This is my favorite part of the day.  PB's mind was totally blown.  He is obsessed with construction sites and my crafty BFF, B, and her hubby, P, both work at a construction site.  So he was yelling about being just like them on the ride.  It was so cute!

I promise to try to try next week :) Thanks for sticking around!!!

PB's new orange shoes

PB saw these shoes in Target a month ago and yelled, "OOOOHHHHHH I need those shoes for preschool!!!" I told him we had to wait until they went on sale :) I love a good sale.  This week they finally did and he got some new shoes that he has been wearing around the house and telling me he can run faster and jump higher because the bottom of the shoes are orange.  HAAHA! Love this kid!

Here is a look at the whole shoe.  He wears a lot of orange, grey and blue so these are going to match most of his clothes.

The Summer Bucket List has taken a back seat to the Olympics.  We have Olympics fever.  If there was a medal for watching the Olympics, I am pretty sure I would have the gold medal this week.  I wasn't feeling great this week, a summer cold has been going around, so it was nice to relax to the Olympics.

Hubby's birthday was yesterday.  He scheduled a work trip on his birthday which meant we couldn't celebrate until tonight.  I would like to thank the co-pilot that didn't show up for hours and then when he did, he couldn't fly the plane because he had been working too long.  My Hubby cancelled his trip and got to be home on his birthday.  I think it was meant to be because you shouldn't be allowed to travel for work on your birthday.  PB and I did a little scrambling to have everything done yesterday.  We wrapped and made his cake all just in time to celebrate.
Happy Birthday to my wonderful Hubby who works so hard and sacrifices so much to provide for our family.  Sorry you had to waste all the time Wednesday driving to the airport just to sit there for a while and drive back home.  I hope the cake makes up for it :)
